Mumbai: Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra has been hogging all the limelight since Monday (July 19) night for all the wrong reasons. The Crime branch of the Mumbai Police arrested the businessman for his alleged involvement in a case linked to production and circulation of adult films through mobile applications. A magistrate court in Mumbai sent Kundra and other accused to a police custody till July 23.

A throwback video of Raj Kundra, his wife Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty from ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ went viral on social media following his arrest. In the clip, the host Kapil can be seen asking Kundra asking about his ‘source of income’.

The comedian jokingly questioned Kundra about his ‘income’ as he is often spotted taking his wife shopping, going on lunch dates and playing football matches with other celebrities.

Shilpa and Shamita burst out into laughter while Kapil pulled Raj Kundra’s legs. Shilpa responded to Sharma’s question and said that her husband works very hard, sometimes for long hours.

Why Was Raj Kundra Arrested?

Mumbai's Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Milind Bharambe addressed a press conference on Tuesday (July 20) evening and said that Raj Kundra and his brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi are the alleged masterminds behind an international adult films racket, a report in IANS said. Kundra was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act by the Mumbai Police.

The Mumbai Police officials had earlier arrested Gehna Vashisht and Umesh Kamath as part of their investigation in the alleged adult movies racket. Kamath headed the India operations of a company named Viaan, which handled the operations of HotShots.

Kundra owns Viaan Industries Ltd while his brother-in-law Bakshi is the chairman of Kenrin Ltd in London. These companies had an app named ‘HotShots’, which was described as the ‘world’s first 18 plus app’, the report in IANS further said.

The police also said that the Crime branch is yet to find any evidence against Shilpa Shetty and they are investigaing the matter. Bharambe requested the victims to come forward and contact the authorities. He promised to take approriate action against the culprits.

Talking about Shilpa Shetty, she is making her return to films after 14 years with ‘Hungama 2’. The comedy drama co-starring Paresh Rawal and Meezan Jaaferi will premiere directly on Disney+Hotstar on July 23, 2021.
