Speaking about coming back on TV after almost a decade, Niki told a leading daily that, "After playing a strong character like Simran, it was difficult to settle for a lesser character or outdo it. Only a compelling script could have prompted me to return to acting. It's a huge step as I have always played progressive protagonists in the 24 years I have been in the industry. I was also apprehensive about returning to TV as I have heard from friends that the work ethics and hours have become horrible. But a challenging and unique script was enough to lure me back. It will be a culture shock for my audience to see me in a negative role, but it's time I did that."
She has been away from TV since a very long time, speaking about quitting acting at the peak, she further told that, "My decision to quit TV was well thought out as I wanted to start my family. I didn't face any withdrawal symptoms. Having said that, I am excited about my comeback as it's a huge decision to turn negative."

The actress will be working for a TV show after a long time. When asked is she is nervous to face the camera again, she told TOI that, "Not at all. It feels as if I had never left the industry. I flirt with the camera the way I used to earlier."
Last seen as Alia Bhatt's step-mother in the Bollywood film 'Shaandaar' also starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead, Niki has been a part of many TV shows in the 90's. Some of her shows are 'Dastaan', 'Sea Hawks', 'Saher' among others.
