New Delhi: ‘Tandav’ has been facing a lot of backlashes not only from the viewers but also from political parties. Starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead role, this Amazon Prime Video original web series released on the OTT platform on January 15, 2021. However, soon after its release, people started slamming the series as viewers are alleging that ‘Tandav’ have insulted Hindu gods and have hurt their sentiments.

While the web series directed by Ali Abbas Zafar has landed into a pool of controversies, the Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) has said that there was no question of pardoning the makers of 'Tandav' web series unless all Muslim actors and directors submit affidavits that they will not insult and ridicule Hindu Gods and goddesses.

In a video message, ABAP chairman Mahant Narendra Giri said that the apology from the team of "Tandav" was meaningless since it came only after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a serious note of the matter and the FIR was registered.

"The police have reached Mumbai and then comes the apology. If these actors and directors belonging to a particular community are truly repentant, they should give affidavits saying that they will not insult the Sanatan Dharma and Hindu deities," he said.

Meanwhile, a criminal complaint has been filed in a court in Delhi against the web series. The petition alleges that ‘Tandav’ incites communal disharmony and hurts Hindu sentiments.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also sought an explanation from the online streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. It issued a summon to the same in response to the complaints filed against the ‘Tandav’ web series for hurting religious sentiments and denigrating Hindu gods and goddesses.
