New Delhi: Fans of the Netflix series Squid Game were left wondering when the second season of the show will become available after the first season ended on such a dramatic note. The widely anticipated sequel of ‘Squid Game’, is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, according to creator Hwang Dong-hyuk.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair released on Wednesday, the director and writer of Netflix's worldwide blockbuster revealed a possible release date for the streaming series' second season, pointing to either the end of 2023 or somewhere in 2024. Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer of Netflix, said at the beginning of 2022 that production on the second season of Squid Game is now underway.

Talking about the return of the series, director Hwang said, “Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again.”

During season one, the writer-director left open the possibility that players may band together to survive the games. For the next season, Hwang said, “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?”

Because so many of the characters from the first season of Squid Game were already dead, we can only anticipate a small number of them to return for the second season. Hwang Dong-hyuk stated that Lee Jung-Jae would reprise his role as Gi-Hun.

The show became a worldwide sensation and received several awards. The Squid Game entices those in debt with the prospect of large sums of money if they win.
