On Saturday Nayanthara penned an open letter addressing actor Dhanush calling him out for trying to block the release of her documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.’ The controversy centers around the use of footage from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary, which led Dhanush to issue a legal notice seeking compensation for unauthorised usage.

What Vignesh, Nayanthara said about Dhanush playing cupid

Amid this, an old interview of Nayanthara and Vignesh has resurfaced on the internet where the couple told how Dhanusn indirectly played a role in their love story.

Vignesh told Hello! India, “Dhanush sir made me narrate the story (of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan) to Nayan (Nayanthara). She liked it. Once she came on board, I was able to cast actor Vijay Sethupathi, who was initially not keen to do this film. He was not convinced about the script. But he agreed after Nayan said yes. The movie paved the way for me to spend a lot of time around her. We got involved within a year.”

Nayanthara's letter to Dhanush

However, Nayanthara’s open letter paints a starkly different picture of her current relationship with Dhanush. She expressed frustration over a two-year battle to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the documentary, accusing Dhanush of refusing to permit the usage of songs, visuals, or photographs from the film due to personal grievances rather than legal or business reasons.

“What's even more shocking is your legal notice after the release of the trailer of the Netflix Documentary. We were startled to read those lines wherein you questioned the usage of some videos (just 3 seconds) which were shot in our personal devices and that too BTS visuals that are already very much publicly present on social media and claimed a sum of Rs.10 crores as damages for the mere 3 seconds. This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character,” Nayanthara wrote.

She also criticised Dhanush’s alleged disdain toward the success of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, a film she described as one of his most successful productions. According to Nayanthara, Dhanush’s ego was bruised by the film’s blockbuster status, which she claims he downplayed at award ceremonies in 2016.

“It's almost been 10 years since the release of the film and it is a long time for someone to continue to be this vile while wearing a mask in front of the world. I have not forgotten all the horrible things that you said about the film that was one of your biggest hits as a producer and a film that is loved by all even today. The words you said pre-release have left some unhealable scars to us already,” she wrote.
