New Delhi: The Election Commission of India ( ECI) seized 66 kg silverware worth Rs. 39 lakhs on the outskirts of Karnataka's Davangere on Friday. The items were seized at a check post near Hebbalu toll in the early hours of Friday morning in the poll-bound state. The silverware allegedly belongs to film producer Boney Kapoor. 


As per an Indian Today report, the silverware was being transported without proper documents in 5 boxes from Chennai to Mumbai in a BMW car.The seized items include silver bowls, spoons, water mugs, plates etc.


The BMW car was being driven by Sultan Khan who was accompanied by Hari Singh. A case has been registered at Davangere rural police station against Hari Singh, reported India Today.


During the investigation, it was found that the car was the property of a company called Bayview Projects Pvt Ltd, founded by Boney Kapoor. After questioning, it has also been alleged that Hari Singh confessed that the silver goods belonged to the film producer's family. However, the police are yet to confirm the same.


This incident happened days after 8.6 kgs of gold worth Rs. 1.47 crores was seized in Bengaluru. As per reports, the Election Commission has seized around Rs. 80 crores in poll-bound state Karnataka since the model code of conduct ( MCC) came into force on March 29.


Meanwhile, elections in Karnataka will be held in a single phase on May 10. The counting of votes will be done on May 13. The term of the 224-member Karnataka assemble ends on May 24. 


On the other hand, Boney Kapoor is bankrolling Ajay Devgn's upcoming film 'Maidaan' along with Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Zee Studios.


'Maidaan' is based on the golden era of Indian footballi. It stars Ajay Devgn as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim along with Priyamani, Rudranil Ghosh and Gajraj Rao.The music of the film has been composed by A. R. Rahman. 


The teaser of 'Maidaan' was released recently. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 23, 2023.
