New Delhi: ‘Shamshera’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor has had a bad opening at the Box office. ‘Shamshera’ is the second period-action film which the Yash Raj banner released this year, the first being ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. According to reports, ‘Shamshera’ performed poorly in business than Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Samrat Prithviraj’.


According to Box Office India report, ‘Shamshera’ has a 15-20% low opening and is pretty much on the same lines as ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. According to other reports that are circulating, ‘Shamshera’ opened at Rs. 9.65 crores, Rs. 10.65 crores net on the box office. 


‘Shamshera’ marks Ranbir Kapoor’s return to the silver screen after 4 years and the expectation of a big opening day was higher than the current trend. The film also had great expectations considering it has been directed by Karan Malhotra, the filmmaker who gave the blockbuster ‘Agneepath’.


Even though mixed reviews abound, Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt’s performance has been raved by many in the audience and critics alike.

According to Box Office India, ‘Shamshera’ is said to have a better opening in the Delhi/UP belt. Even though some demographics are performing better, ‘Shmashera’ should have a decent mass opening throughout the country to be able to stay afloat. The first weekend is crucial for the survival of such a film which has been promoted aggressively throughout the last month and has been touted as a pan-India original content film.


In order to sail safely though the weekend, ‘Shamshera’ must collect close to Rs. 20 crores. The film has received the biggest screen count post pandemic. The production house Yash Raj Films has screened the film on 4350 screens across India.


Ranbir Kapoor is in double role in the film, while Sanjay Dutt plays his arch nemesis.Vaani Kapoor portrays Ranbir’s love interest in ‘Shamshera’.
