New Delhi: Salim Ghouse, veteran theatre, film and TV actor, director and martial artist, passed away at the age of 70.


Salim Ghouse suffered a heart attack last night in his Mumbai residence. His wife, Anita Salim Ghouse told ABP News, "Kal der raat tak voh bilkul theek lag rahe the. Unhone apne kaam niptaye aur phir khana bhi khaya. Lekin phir achanak se unhe boht asahaj mehsoos hua to unhe fauran mumbai ke andheri stith Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital le jaya gaya, jaha par unhe mrit ghoshit ghar dia gaya. Heart attack se unke mrityu ho gyi."(Till late last night, he looked fine. He(Sunil Ghouse) finished his work and even had dinner. However, suddenly he felt uncomfortable and was rushed to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival).


The veteran actor had acted in many Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. He is known for portraying Rama, Krishna and Tipu Sultan in Shyam Benegal's TV series 'Bharat Ek Khoj'. 


Ghouse also worked with legends like Kamal Haasan in 'Vettri Vizhaa', Mohanlan in 'Thazhvaram', with Mani Ratnam as a villain in 'Thiruda Thiruda'. He also worked in movies like 'Manthan', 'Drohi', 'Saaransh', 'Kalyug', 'Koyla', among many others.


Salim Ghouse had also dubbed for the role of Scar in 'The Lion King'(1995) Hindi version.


A graduate of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune(FTII), Salim Ghouse also worked on many projects like ‘Kim’, ‘The Perfect Murder’, ‘The Deceivers’, ‘The Maharajas Doctor’, ‘Getting Personal’ among others.
