New Delhi: Acclaimed actress Sai Pallavi recently issued an apology after her remarks regarding the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s went viral. Many people felt she was degrading the Kashmiri Pandit tragedy with her statement.
On Instagram, Sai Pallavi stated that she would never belittle the tragedy, saying that she was attempting to stress that violence of any form was sinful and that she would never trivialise it. In the video posted on Instagram, the actress said, "This is the first time that I am getting in touch with all to clarify something and I think this will be the first time that I will be thinking twice before I speak my heart because I am anxious that my words might be misinterpreted. So forgive me, if I take longer than usual to communicate my thoughts."
As a medical graduate, Sai Pallavi said it disturbed her to see individuals online supporting lynching in response to her views. According to her, as youngsters, they would separate one other based on their cultural background (caste and religion).
In an interview for the channel Great Andhra on YouTube, she was asked about the effect of the left-wing movement on her personal life. Sai made it clear that she doesn't take a position. She was clear, though, about her opposition to violence committed in the name of any faith.
Social media users were divided on Sai Pallavi's remarks. Several individuals felt that she was making light of the tragedy in Kashmir.
‘Virata Parvam,’ a new Telugu film starring Sai Pallavi, premiered this week. Based on a true story from the 1990s, the film also stars Rana Daggubati.
