Actor Rhea Chakraborty, who was accused of abetment to suicide and drug peddling following the death of her ex-boyfriend and actor Sushant Singh Rajput, is soon to make a comeback in Bollywood. The revelation was made by filmmaker and actor's friend Rumi Jaffery. Jaffrey, who is directing upcoming film Chehre, and was also a close friend of Rajput, said, 'Rhea will return to her work early next year.'
In an interview to SpotBoye, Rumi Jaffery said that while 2020 was bad for everyone, it was a traumatic year for Rhea. He said, 'The year was distressing for everyone. But in Rhea's case the trauma was of another level altogether. We can't even imagine that a girl from a well-to-do middle class family has to spend a month in jail. That crushed her morale completely.'
He added, 'She will get back to work early next year. I met Rhea recently. She was quiet and withdrawn and I can't blame her after what she has gone through. Once the dust settles I am sure Rhea has a lot to say.'
After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14, Rhea Chakraborty was subjected to inhuman harassment on social media and electronic media. Sushant's family filed a complaint against her and others for abetment to suicide. They alleged that she siphoned off Rs 15 crore from the late actor's bank account. She was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for alleged consumption and possession of drugs. Rhea's brother Showik Chakraborty was also arrested by the NCB. Rhea was granted bail on October 7, after spending about a month in Mumbai's Byculla jail. Showik was released around three months after his arrest.
Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, in a statement said, 'I welcome the statement of Shri Anil Deshmukh, Home Minister, and Government of Maharashtra calling for the CBI to make the report public in the case of death of Sushant Singh Rajput. A hue and cry was made when the Mumbai Police took about 2 months into the investigations and the report remained to be made public. An FIR was filed in Patna making false allegations against Rhea Chakraborty and her family in July 2020. The Mumbai Police, ED, NCB and CBI including Patna Police have conducted investigations against Rhea. She was arrested in a bogus case with no evidence by NCB. She was harassed by various agencies and remained in custody for almost a month till the Bombay High Court released her on Bail.'
Satish Maneshinde asked for a closure to the case. He added, 'Rhea filed an FIR accusing the sisters of SSR administering him illegally obtained medicines without a proper medical advise and on the basis of a bogus prescription. She alleged that the cocktail of drugs and illegally administered medicines could be the cause of his death. It is more than six months since SSR died. I have always said that the truth will remain the same whoever investigates the case. Whatever may be the circumstances, the CBI should come out with its findings after 4 months of investigations by the premier investigating agency of the country. It is high time that there is a closure to this sad event.'
