New Delhi: Going by the first-day collection, it seems Akshay Kumar has a third flop of 2022 in his kitty with ‘Raksha Bandhan’. According to Box Office India, the film earned collected Rs 8 crore on its first day. The film has opened to a very disappointing number considering it was released on Raksha Bandhan itself and the film’s theme is about brother and sisters' bond.

‘Raksha Bandhan’ clashed with ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ at the box office. Though Aamir Khan’s film has fared better than the Akshay starrer, both the films’ low opening has continued the dry spell of Bollywood at the ticket window.

‘Raksha Bandhan’ is Akshay's third release of the year. His earlier films ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ opened at Rs 13.25 crore and ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ opened at Rs 10.7 crore.

'Raksha Bandhan’ has performed well in Gujarat / Saurashtra and Rajasthan circuits. The film has reportedly recorded a meager collection in multiplexes and is doing better in the single-screen market.

Directed by Aanand L Rai, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ features Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth, and Deepika Khanna in the roles of Akshay’s sisters while Bhumi Pednekar plays his leading lady.

Ahead of the release of the film, Akshay Kumar had spoken to IANS about his recent failures and how he had seen failure in his career earlier too.

"This has happened several times in my career.. Ups and downs happen in everybody's life. Already, a man puts in everything in making a film and after that doing the publicity of that film that too takes a toll," Akshay told IANS.

When asked if the mixed responses that his film get affects him, the actor said, “Only till Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The three days of release that affect and from Monday different work starts."

The 54-year-old actor has been in the industry for over three decades and has worked in over 100 films. He made his debut with 'Saugandh'.
