There was a good surprise in store over the weekend gone by as Decoupled turned out to be an absolutely delightful web series with a different touch to it. An urban romcom with a difference, considering the romance here is substituted by the story of a couple which is gong through a divorce and still brings in quite a few chuckles, this Hardik Mehta directed show stays on to be light hearted right through its 8 episodes.

Madhavan is superb all over again and it is wonderful to see him going bang on with his English diction in this out and out urban show that is set in Gurgaon. While he is of course a veteran in the business, the real surprise is Surveen Chawla who has delivered a box office success in Hate Story 2, an erotic thriller, but gets into a ‘venture capitalist mom of a teenage daughter’ avtar with effortless ease. One wonders where was she all these years!

All in all, a very watchable show on Netflix which can be given a quick fire watch over a period of 4 hours.

On the other hand an original film that stays engrossing right through its 90 minutes is 420 IPC. It is good to see different kind of content been generated in the world of OTT and this Manish Gupta directed film is a good example of that. Released on ZEE5, this is one of the better originals to be arriving on the platform which is continuing to generate content at a regular pace. This time around it’s a financial scam that forms the centerstage of this film which hooks you from the beginning till the end.

Coming together of a good cast further helps the cause because while Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey are anyways known for delivering their best each time around, there is Gul Panag too with a substantial role. Moreover one film old Rohan Mehra (Baazaar) has a lengthy role to play as well, that of a lawyer defending the accused, and he gives a good account of himself.

Watch the film if you liked The Big Bull and you won’t be disappointed.

Coming soon

This is going to be a really big weekend for OTT as Akshay Kumar brings yet another film of his straight to digital, Atrangi Re. Last year he did that with Laxmii and now it’s time for this romantic musical drama. This would also make it an astonishing four releases for the superstar in a span of almost a year, what with Bell Bottom and Sooryavanshi arriving in between at theatres, and then on the OTT.

The Disney+Hotstar release is also special for Aanand L. Rai since he is arriving three years after Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero. A triangular love story, Atrangi Re is about Sara Ali Khan who is caught between two men, one with whom she gets into a forced marriage (Dhanush) and another, a magician, who is the love of her life. With Dhanush and Akshay Kumar enacting the part of these two characters, one waits to see how Aanand has bright some heartwarming emotional moments in Atrangi Re which also boasts of good music by A.R. Rahman.
