Mumbai: Besides battling Coronavirus, the country is faced with another calamity - Cyclone Tauktae. While Centre and State governments took several protective measure and evacuated hundreds of people ahead of the landfall of the cyclone, the storm intensified on Monday morning wrecking havoc at many parts of the coastal states of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. From destroying vehicles to uprooting electric poles and trees, Cyclone Tauktae brought heavy damage to Mumbai.
Disaster management authorities and weather forecast departments have asked people not to venture out. Many Bollywood celebs including actor Amitabh Bachchan, Kartik Aaryan and Sonu Sood also urged fans to stay at home and take care of families.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, vetaran actor Amitabh Bachchan urged the citizens of Mumbai to follow issued protocols amid Cyclone Tauktae. “T 3905 - The effects of the #CycloneTauktae have begun .. rains in Mumbai .. please be safe and protected .. prayers as ever," Big B tweeted.
Kartik Aryan also shared his views on the cyclone. While sharing a hilarious picture of himself, the actor in a Twitter post wrote, "#Tauktae, One more reason to stay inside."
Sonu Sood, who has been helping poors and migrants amid the Covid pandemic, urged Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, to save the lives of people who are stuck in the middle of the Arabian sea due to Cyclone Tauktae. "CM Sir @BSYBJP request you to mobilise our machinery on saving these precious lives. @indiannavy #TauktaeCyclone," the actor wrote.
Model and actress Diana Penty also requested her fans to stay home and take care. In a Twitter post she said, "Hope everyone is safe and well in Mumbai. Please stay home and take care!#CycloneTauktae."
As per the latest input, the cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea led to very strong winds blowing at a speed of 114 kmph in Mumbai. Cyclone Tauktae has intensified into a severe storm and is charged towards Gujarat after crossing Mumbai.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur in coastal areas of Gujarat on May 17 & May 18. Extremely heavy rainfall is also expected at some places.
