Women of today are no less than men in any way. Starting from personal to professional achievements, women have been setting new goals and making everyone proud. On March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day to celebrate womanhood and their achievements from all walks of life.
On the occasion of Women’s Day today, here’s bringing to you the 5 best women-centric films of the year 2020:
Chhapaak-
Based on the life of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, ‘Chhapaak’ tells the struggle of such a survivor who fights for the ban on the sale of acid. The lead role is being portrayed by Deepika Padukone and the movie has been directed by Meghna Gulzar. This movie also marked Deepika’s debut as a producer.
Panga-
Panga tells the story of a middle-class woman with a family who thrives to give a new meaning to her life apart from being a mother and a wife. Kangana Ranaut played the lead role of the protagonist, a forgotten Kabaddi world champion who takes the insightful decision to come back to sports despite the age-related and societal challenges. This movie has been directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
Thappad-
This film tells the story of a housewife who ignores every little unfair thing in her life for the sake of her husband and family. But, one slap changes everything and the protagonist of the movie portrayed by Taapsee Pannu is unable to forget the slap and move on in her life. She finally gets a divorce from her husband and part ways with renewed hope. Thappad has been directed by Anubhav Sinha.
Shakuntala Devi-
This biographical drama traces the life of mathematician Shakuntala Devi, also known as the ‘human computer’. Written and directed by Anu Menon, Vidya Balan portrays the role of the protagonist in this movie which tells the tale of an incredibly talented woman making her way into the world despite of the societal challenges and familial issues.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl-
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl tells the story of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, who is the only woman to be a part of the Kargil War. Portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor, this movie has been inspired by Gunjan Saxena’s life. This movie has been directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Karan Johar.
