New Delhi: Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal' has been in the making for quite some time now. The Nitesh Tiwari directorial’s release date has been changed earlier as well. However, now, instead of a theatre release, the film will be released on OTT.

The film, which is set against the backdrop of the World War II, has been directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who is known for 'Dangal'.

According to reports, the film revolves around the subject which is a little offbeat and doesn't fall in the category of an out-and-out commercial masala entertainer. The makers have reportedly decided that OTT will be the best-suited medium for the exhibition of the film.

The film will now be released in October on Prime Video and an official announcement shall be made soon. The source told Bollywood Hungama, "Sajid Nadiadwala (producer) got into conversation with his actors, Varun and Janhvi, and it's only after having all been on the same page did he take this call. The entire team believes that 'Bawaal' will win over the audience's love on OTT".

The source further told the publication, "The film is a poetry in motion and is expected to reach out to an even wider audience base on digital medium, which might not have been possible with theatrical release. The idea is to go global with Bawaal and Amazon is the perfect partner for that reach".

Earlier, Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the date change when ‘Bawaal’ was supposed to be released in theatres. He said, "VARUN DHAWAN - JANHVI KAPOOR: 'BAWAAL' NEW RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED… #Bawaal - which reunites producer #SajidNadiadwala and director #NiteshTiwari after #Chhichhore - to release on 6 Oct 2023… Stars #VarunDhawan and #JanhviKapoor."

Earlier, ‘Bawaal’ was supposed to be released on April 7, 2023. However, as per reports, the delay is because of VFX issues. Looks like the post production work on the film is still pending.

Fans are super excited to see what the fresh pairing of Varun and Janhvi will bring to the screen for the first time.
