New Delhi: Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer ‘Simmba’, which hit the silver screens on December 28, has started on a flying note at the box office. The Rohit Shetty directorial has been making waves ever since the trailer was unveiled by the makers. The action drama has beaten the first day box office collection of Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif’s film ‘Zero’. The Aanand L Rai directorial minted Rs 20.14 crore on its opening day while ‘Simmba’s day one box office collection stood at Rs 20.72 crore.

Bollywood trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh shared Simmba’s box office collection on Twitter.

''#Simmba gathered momentum during the course of the day, with evening/night shows supporting the film... Mumbai circuit is rocking... Emerges Ranveer Singh’s biggest opening day... Day 2 performing better than Day 1... Fri ₹ 20.72 cr. India biz,'' Adarsh wrote on the micro-blogging site.


'Simmba', which also stars Sonu Sood, has turned out to be Ranveer Singh's highest opener till date as the film gave him his biggest opening at the box office.

Ranveer, who was earlier seen as Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat', has received critical acclaim for his role as a cop in 'Simmba'. While 'Padmaavat' had earned Rs 19 crore on day one, the cop drama has minted Rs 20.72 crore on its first day.

Trade pundits are expecting 'Simmba' to continue the good run and rake in big moolah at the box office. On the professional front, Ranveer Singh will be next seen in 'Gully Boy'. The 'Gunday' actor also has '83' and 'Takht' in his kitty. Talking about Sara, 'Simmba' was her second film after Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kedarnath. The star kid has managed to win the hearts of the audience and critics with her performance in both the films.
