John Abraham’s ‘Satyameva Jayate, which hit the silver screens on August 15, has started quite well at the box office despite competition from Akshay Kumar’s Gold. The Milap Zaveri directorial co-starring Manoj Bajpayee and Aisha Sharma has surpassed the expectations of trade pundits. “Satyameva Jayate’ Day 1 box office collection stood at a manmoth Rs 20.52 crore, making it one of the biggest openers of the year.

The film, which received mixed reviews from critics, has managed to win the hearts of the audience and it’s reflecting in its box office collection. The action-thriller has proved to be the biggest opener of John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee’s career. Trade pundits were expecting ‘Satyameva Jayate’ to mint Rs 10 crore on its opening day but the film has packed a solid punch by raking in over Rs 20 crore.

Talking about the film, John Abraham plays the role of Virendra Rathod, an ex-army man who becomes a vigilante.  Veer is determined to eradicate corruption in the country in order to bring justice to people who can’t protect themselves.

The film marked the Bollywood debut of actress Neha Sharma's sister Aisha Sharma.

‘Satyameva Jayate’ has emerged as the fifth biggest opener of the year after ‘Sanju’, ‘Race 3’, ‘Gold’ and 'Baaghi 2'.


The film grabbed several eyeballs even before its release when the makers unveiled 'Dilbar' song featuring ex-Bigg Boss contestant Nora Fatehi and John Abraham. The recreated version of Sushmita Sen's 'Dilbar' became the fastest Hindi song to cross 100 million views on YouTube.

The clash between 'Gold' and 'Satyameva Jayate' became the talk of the town after it was announced that both the film will release on the same date. Interestingly, both the films have done quite well, with the Akshay Kumar starrer minting Rs 25.25 crore on its first day.

'Namaste England' star Arjun Kapoor took to Twitter to congratulate the makers and express his happiness on both the films doing so well.
