New Delhi: 'Animal' continues to make a lion's share of profit at the box office despite the controversies surrounding the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film. Among many who have criticised the Ranbir Kapoor starrer, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has come out in support of the blockbuster 'Animal' has become. Recently, Ram Gopal Varma called 'Animal' a riff on 'The Godfather' but from Sunny Corleone's perspective.

In an interview, he also compared 'Animal' to the films of Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese and said that he spoke to Vanga about a theory he had about the film, but Vanga shut him down in his own trademark fashion.

In an interview with News9 Live, RGV said that 'Animal' reminded him of Scrosese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street'. "The last film I saw where the director himself is not being judgemental about the character was Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is immoral, he’s bad, and yet you’re fascinated to see him. I would like to think Animal is a mix of Scorsese and Tarantino.”

In the same interview, RGV said that he had a 'problem' with writer Swanand Kirkire's criticism of 'Animal', where he called the film a 'dangerous precedent'.

Shedding more light on his Godfather theory, RGV said, "I remember a line from the book where Puzo describes Luca Brasi: ‘From 1935 to 1937, the name of Santino Corleone sent shockwaves through the underworld. Yet for sheer terror even he was eclipsed by the awesome man named Luca Brasi’. That kind of description was never there in Francis Ford Coppola’s film, but the Don was always scared of his son. And the way Sonny wants to kill all the five families when Don Corleone is attacked reminds me of Ranvijay in Animal.”

Ram Gopal Varma, when sharing his theory with Vanga, added, "I asked Sandeep if he’s read the book Godfather, and he said, ‘I’ve never read a single book in my life’.”

As for now, RGV has called 'Animal' the'most original film' in Indian cinema history and has described Vanga as 'the highly commercial version of Anurag Kashyap’.

Meanwhile, ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol has collected some Rs. 800 crores at the box office.
