New Delhi: Kannada actor-director Rishab Shetty, known for his blockbuster film ‘Kantara’, has shared an update on the much-anticipated prequel, ‘Kantara 2’. As he celebrated his 40th birthday on Friday, Rishab revealed that the pre-production work for ‘Kantara 2’ is progressing smoothly, and they are aiming to release the film in 2024. The actor had previously disclosed that the sequel would actually be a prequel to the first part.
In an interview with Indian Express, Rishab stated that the writing and pre-production stages of ‘Kantara 2’ is currently underway. He expressed that they plan to begin shooting this year and release the film the following year. When asked for further details about the movie, Rishab remained tight-lipped and mentioned that the team would make an official announcement at the appropriate time, along with a proper mahurat ceremony.
Earlier, at an event, Rishab had discussed ‘Kantara 2’ being a prequel and expressed that the idea originated while he was filming the first installment. He explained that the history of Kantara has more depth than he wishes to explore. As the research is still ongoing, he felt it was too early to reveal specific details about the film.
The original ‘Kantara’, produced by Hombale Films, featured Rishab Shetty, along with actors Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda, and Pramod Shetty. The movie was a huge success, earning over Rs 450 crore at the box office.
