New Delhi: Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise has re-ignited debates on topics like nepotism, insider vs outside and favouritism in Bollywood. Several fans have expressed their displeasure over the way Sushant was treated by the ‘privileged club’ in the Hindi film industry. An old tweet of author Chetan Bhagat has resurfaced on social media and it is now going viral.

“So happy to share @itsSSR will play lead in @mohit11481 directed Half Girlfriend. Shooting begins 1Q16,” Chetan’s old tweet read. Sushant was originally set to play the male lead but he had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Several Twitter users trolled Arjun Kapoor, who replaced Sushant in the Mohit Suri directorial. They trended the hashtags- #ArjunKapoor and #HalfGirlfriend on the micro-blogging site. Fans highlighted Chetan Bhagat’s tweets and blamed nepotism for his exit from ‘Half Girlfriend’.

While it is true that Sushant Singh Rajput was supposed to play the lead in ‘Half Girlfriend’, he wasn’t replaced by Arjun Kapoor at the last moment. The ‘Pavitra Rishta’ actor had to drop out of the film because of his other projects.

Sushant, while talking to an entertainment portal, had revealed why he dropped out of ‘Half Girlfriend’. The ‘Shudh Desi Romance’ actor also walked out of Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Fitoor’ due to jam-packed scheduled. He had reacted to the rumours of him leaving some projects due to Dinesh Vijaan’s ‘Raabta’ in an interview with portal.

“See, I was doing many films and they are all releasing now. I don’t want to name them. What happens is, when I give my word to someone and he’s delaying (not because he wants to, but because of a particular reason) and I get to understand it, I won’t ditch. So be it the biggest film with the biggest studio or the smallest film, I won’t leave another film. So unfortunately, because of the two films that I was doing and that didn’t happen, I lost out on 12 films in the last one year. One film didn’t happen and the other was put off by a few months. And these films are the films that we generally talk about these days. Let’s not get into all that,” Sushant told Bollywoodlife in an interview in 2016.

The ‘Chhichhore’ actor had also denied rumours of rift with his mentors Abhishek Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor for refusing their films. He later re-united with Abhishek for ‘Kedarnath’, which marked the Bollywood debut of Sara Ali Khan.

Sushant was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. He was reportedly battling depression since the last six months. His last rites took place at Pawan Hans crematorium, Vile Parle on June 15. The ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ actor’s family members recently organized a prayer meet for their well-wishes at their residence in Patna.
