Mumbai: Actor Vivek Oberoi on Monday faced the wrath of social media users and the celebrities which included Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and Badminton played Jwala Gutta over his election meme he tweeted on Monday morning that compares his former girlfriend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's life. The meme uses pictures of Aishwarya with Slaman Khan terming in 'Opinion Poll', her picture with Vivek calling it 'Exit Poll' and finally a family picture with Abhishek Bachchan and their daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, calling it 'Result'.

Oberoi dated the actor-former Miss World in early 2000s and using this tweet in totally bad taste made him face the back lash from the fans as well as the celebrities. The meme was a take on the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the results of which will be declared on Thursday. "Haha! creative! No politics here... just life," Oberoi captioned the photo.

"Disgusting and classless," Sonam tweeted in reaction to the tweet. Jwala Gutta called his actions "disappointing".

Sonam Kapoor, Jwala Gutta & fans lash out at Vivek Oberoi for Exit Poll meme on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Salman Khan

"It is hardly hilarious. It's crass, disgusting and reveals the sick mentality of its 'creator'@vivekoberoi. Evident that the man lacks everything - political as well as life skills," Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women(NCW), said.

And now the NCW has issued a notice to Vivek in this matter.

The official  handle of NCW tweeted the copy of the notice dated May 20th in which the commission demands a "satisfactory explanation to the commission on the matter on receipt of this notice".

The notice marked to 'Shri Vivek Oberoi' reads-

Whereas the National Commission for Women has come across several media reports on 20th May, 2019 wherein it is reported that you have made insulting misogynistic post on Twitter carrying picture of a minor girl and a woman. It has been reported that you have drawn a sly comparison between the poll result and a woman's personal life.

Whereas the post made is extremely offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general.

In view of the above, you are hereby required to provide a satisfactory explanation to the commission on the matter on receipt of this notice.

This issues with the approval of Competent Authority.

The tweet along with the notice picture reads - "The NCW has taken Suo-Motto cognizance in the matter reported by the media regarding Vivek Oberoi’s twit carrying picture of a minor girl and a women today . @vivekoberoi"

Vijaya Rahatkar, chairperson Maharashtra Women's Commission had said a while ago that they will send a notice to the actor for his tweet, which is "disrespectful towards women".

"What he has tweeted cannot be considered as 'creativity'... He is a responsible actor and we did not expect this behaviour from him. We have taken a note of this and we will be sending him a notice to him," Rahatkar tweeted.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit also slammed the actor.

"Dear Vivek Oberoi, this is absolutely distasteful on so many levels. How can you call this cheap remark 'creative' in any way? Didn't expect this from an otherwise cultured person like you," Pandit tweeted.

Such was the reaction to the actor's tweet that his name had started trending with many on social media lashing out against Oberoi.

"I thought it's a troll account. Shame on vivek," the tweet read.

Another post said the actor should have at least thought twice about dragging a minor, Aishwarya's daughter, into the controversy. "Please don't spread this pics its demeaning to a woman and a torture to her child too! Please its a humble request! #VivekOberoi #NarendraModi," he said.

"I'm pretty sure #AishwariaRai chose a man with character. This is really cheap.

There's a fine line between Humour and Insult to individual. Increase your Celeb status to 1 per cent of what she's Achieved at least. Disgusting @vivekoberoi #VivekOberoi," another user tweeted.
