Mumbai: Mahima Chaudhary, who is fondly known for her role in ‘Pardes’, has been missing from the big screens since a long time. The talented actress won several hearts with her power-packed performance in Subhash Ghai’s film. Her sizzling chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan had created ripples when the musical drama released in the theatres. She even bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Debut for her role in 'Pardes'.
Mahima, while talking to a leading daily, opened up on the changes in the Hindi film industry in the past few years. She said that the current generation of actresses are getting better parts and endorsements. Chaudhary added that the heroines also have a longer shelf life these days.
The 48-year-old actress said that female stars faced difficulties in establishing in their careers if they were married or had a child. She didn't mince her words while recalling what happened in the industry in the 90s.
Mahima gave a no-holds-barred interview and said that the relationship status of an actress impacted her career during earlier times. “The minute you started dating someone, people would write you off because they only wanted a virgin who had not kissed. If you were dating someone, it was like, ‘Oh! She’s dating!’. If you were married, then forget it, you career was over, and if you had a child, it was like absolutely over,” the ‘Lajja’ actress told Hindustan Times.
Her interview has set several tongues wagging as Mahima is one of the few actresses, who dared to speak up about the evolution in the industry.
Mahima has worked in films like 'Daag: The Fire', 'Dhadkan' and 'Kurukshetra', 'Baghban', to name a few. She was last seen in a Bengali criminal thriller 'Dark Chocolate'. Her contemporaries like Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor have forayed into the OTT space. It remains to be seen if Chaudhary will give her nod to a digital project or not.
