Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut sparked a nationwide furore following her 'real freedom' remark during her recent interview. Political parties including the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have demanded action against the 'Queen' star over her 'bheekh' comment. She trended on Twitter after a clip from the interview went viral.
Kangana Ready To Return Padma Shri If Proven That She Disrespected Martyrs
The National Award-winning artist took to social media to share a series of posts to issue a clarification over her statement. She said that she is willing to return her Padma Shri if someone proves that she disrespected the martyrs and freedom fighters of the country.
The 'Fashion' actress shared quotations from a book along with the caption, "Just to set the records straight. I am not the only one to call Congress beggar."
In her next post, she offered to return her Padma Shri if someone told her about the 'war which took place in 1947'. She wrote, "Everything is very clearly mentioned in the same interview 1857 first collective fight for freedom along with the sacrifice of greats like Subhash Chandra Bose, Rani Laxmibai and Veer Savarkar ji. 1857 I know but which war took place in 1947 I am not aware, if someone can bring to my awareness I will give back my Padma Shri and apologise also please help me with this."
Ranaut also mentioned her film 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' and said tha she 'extensively researched' to play her role in the period drama, which was based on India's freedom struggle and Rani Laxmi Bai.
"I have worked in a feature film of a martyr Rani Laxmi. Extensively researched on the first fight of freedom 1857nationalism rose so did the right wing but why it died a sudden death? and why Gandhi let Bhagat Singh die. Why Neta Bose was killed and never got Gandhi ji's support? why line of partition was drawn by a white man? Instead of celebrating freedom why Indians killed each other some of the answers I am seeking please help me find answers," her post read.
How Kangana Stirred Controversy
Kangana, while interacting with a journalist during Times Now Summit, said that India got 'real freedom' in 2014 when PM Narendra Modi-led government came to the Centre. The ‘Panga’ star set several tongues wagging when she described India’s Independence in 1947 as 'bheekh' (alms).

The tinsel town diva looked stunning in a shimmery outfit at the wrap-up party of her film- 'Tejas'. She will be seen playing the role of an IAF officer in the film.
