Mumbai: Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated flick ‘BellBottom’ has hit the silver screens on Friday (August 19). The espionage spy thriller is the first major film to release in the theatres after the last quarter was affected by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. The movie has managed to receive rave reviews from the critics and audience upon its release.

Movie buffs are quite excited to know how much ‘BellBottom’ will collect amid the COVID-19 crisis. At a time when filmmakers have decided to skip theatrical release for their projects, Vashu Bhagnani has released his new film in the cinema halls. Will his risk prove to be fruitful?

Trade pundits believe that ‘BellBottom’ can hold its ground and grab eyeballs as it is one of the biggest films of 2021.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan, while talking to NDTV, said that the film can earn a decent sum on its opening day at the box office. He told the news channel that theatres are not operating in full capacity and hence, ‘BellBottom’ can collect Rs 3-4 crore on its first day.

Another report in a leading daily said that the much-awaited flick is expected to start on solid note. 'BellBottom' has the potential to earn Rs 5-7 crore at the box office, the report in Jansatta added.

According to Twitter handle Indian Box Office, the film has registered a strong occupancy during the afternoon shows.

‘BellBottom’ has released on Thursday instead of the usual Friday, which can turn out to be an advantage for the film. Considering the good mouth-of-the-word publicity, the film is expected to perform well at the box office.

Despite feeling the pinch from COVID-induced lockdown, the theatre chains and industry experts are hopeful that ‘BellBottom’ can revive the theatrical business.

The film, which has been produced by Pooja Entertainment, also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta in key roles. The Ranjit Tiwari directorial was filmed in Scotland in 2020.
