New Delhi: Singer Mika Singh saluted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being able to use Indian currency at Doha airport in Qatar while shopping at a luxury store. The singer took to Twitter on Wednesday to salute the PM "for enabling us to use our money like dollars". Mika Singh's tweet seems to have gone viral and has already 270.4 K views with over 9500 likes.

On Wednesday morning, Mika Singh wrote on Twitter, "Good morning. I felt so proud to be able to use Indian rupees whilst shopping at #Dohaairport in the @LouisVuitton store. You can even use rupees in any restaurant.. Isn't that wonderful? A massive salute to @narendramodi saab for enabling us to use our money like dollars."

Soon after Mika shared the post along with a video of him in which he is seen in a black Louis Vuitton tracksuit saying to his viewers, "Satri akal, Namaskar... this is Mika Singh. Proud moment ki baat hai ki right now I am in Qatar, Doha and humara Indian money, Indian currency mein you can shop. Jo bhi aapko shopping karni hai aap Indian currency de sakte hai aur shopping kar sakte hai..." ( Proud moment for us that I'm in Doha, Qatar and here using Indian money, we can shop).

Mika then went on to thank PM Modi in the video.

Apart from Qatar, Dubai Duty Free also accepts payments in Indian currency. The new rule kicked in from July 1, 2019, and the currency is accepted at all points of sales in Terminal 1, 2, 3 of Dubai International. However, in Dubai, the customers are given back in UAE dirhams, not rupees.

In 2022, Business Insider shared an article about the list of countries where Indian currency is accepted. These include Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Zimbabwe.
