The ashes of the legendary singer Bharat Ratna, Lata Mangeshkar were immersed in the Ganga River by her family members in Varanasi on March 8,2022.
She had breathed her last at a hospital in Mumbai on February 6.
Lata Mangeshkar's sister Usha Mangeshkar along with other family members reached Varanasi with the urn containing the ashes.
They took a boat at Khidkiya Ghat from where they went to Ahilyabai Ghat.
After performing the Vedic rituals under the guidance of the priest Shrikant Pathak at the ghat, the ashes were immersed in the midstream of Ganga.
Earlier, the family members of the late singer Bharat Ratna had immersed Lata Mangeshkar's ashes in the sacred Pavitra Ramkund on the banks of the Godavari River in Nashik February 10.
Late singer's nephew, Adinath Mangeshkar, sister Asha Bhosale and other kin were present at the brief religious ceremony.
Later, the ashes were immersed in the Pavitra Ramkund -- where it is said that Lord Rama used to take his daily bath during the 14-year exile.
Lata Didi, as she was fondly called by all, passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital on February 6 after prolonged spells of illness including Covid-19.
Born on September 28, 1929, she began her career in 1942 at the age of 13. In a career spanning over seven decades, the melody queen recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. She recorded her songs in over 36 regional Indian and foreign languages.
