Fans gathered in large numbers for the release of ‘L2: Empuran’ on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Malayalam-language action thriller film was directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and stars Mohanlal.
The movie is among the most anticipated films of 2025, and judging by the advance bookings, it seems poised to make a massive impact at the box office, according to India Today.
‘L2: Empuraan’, the second instalment ‘Lucifer’ franchise. It is also a stand-alone film; moviegoers would still be able to completely understand the plot, story and narrative even if they haven’t watched the first part.
It was produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca Productions and Sri Gokulam Movies. The film’s story was penned by Murali Gopy, and its music was scored by Deepak Dev. The film has cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev and editing by Akhilesh Mohan.
Apart from Mohanlal, the film also stars Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, among others. 'Lucifer', the first part of the franchise, which released in 2019 and which marked the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, emerged a blockbuster in just eight days.
It went on to make over Rs 200 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. As per the trailer, the second part of the film delves into a socio-political drama, with Mohanlal's character at the centre.
Packed with intensity, the video is a cinematic spectacle, with Mohanlal commanding a larger-than-life screen presence as Khureshi-Ab'raam. 'L2: Empuraan' is also the first-ever Malayalam film to be released in IMAX. Apart from Malayalam, the film will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty extended his support for the film. Taking to his X account on Tuesday, the actor shared his excitement about the film's release and also wished the cast and crew success.
