New Delhi: It has been 25 years since Johnny Depp has directed a film, but next year he will make his comeback. The well-known actor will helm a biopic on Amedeo Modigliani, an Italian painter, named Modigliani. Johnny will also serve as a producer on the film with seasoned performer Al Pacino.

In the upcoming biopic Modigliani, the actor is going to be working behind the camera with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi, who will also be co-producing the production with Johnny Depp.

The film Modigliani, about the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, is adapted from Dennis McIntyre's play of the same name. The film adaptation is being written and directed by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. Amedeo Modigliani was a painter and sculptor in Paris. The events of 1916 in the artist's life serve as the backdrop for the film's narrative.

The film depicts the pivotal 48 hours in Modigliani's life that cemented his reputation as an artistic icon. According to industry reports, filming on the project will get underway in Europe in the spring of 2023. The film's cast members will be announced shortly.

Johnny Depp made his directorial and screenwriting debut with the film The Brave in 1997. Alongside Marlon Brando, he shared the screen in this film. The film opened to mixed reviews at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival. As a result of the backlash, Johnny Depp decided not to distribute The Brave in the United States.

A jury in Virginia decided on June 1 that Depp was entitled to USD 10.35 million in damages for the defamation claim he brought against his ex-wife Amber Heard. This was a big win for Depp in the case. In the countersuit that Heard filed, she was successful in having a single claim granted damages of USD 2 million.
