New Delhi: 'Jersey' is struggling at the box office. The Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur film despite receiving rave reviews about being a 'performance film' hasn't really caught up. Why? Because of mega-phenomenon films like 'KGF2', 'RRR' and 'Beast' minting money at the box office.
Jersey's Day 1 collection, according to AndhraBoxOffice.com, was Rs 4 crores domestically, a pretty low start on Day 1 for a Hindi film.On the other hand, 'KGF 2', in the Hindi belt, earned triple of what Jersey's first day collection figure looks like.
The Box Office analysis site took to its official Twitter handle to share 'Jersey's poor performance at the box office.
"It would instead be surprising these days if Hindi films take a Good start on Day 1. As expected #Jersey 1st Day is pretty low Domestically and is looking at ₹4 Cr Nett. #KGF2 9th Day Hindi Belt may be almost Triple at ₹12 Cr Nett Today! #KGF2 Trending ahead even in Plexes."
The portal further added that 'Jersey' became a Box office disaster the moment it chose to release in the vicinity of theatres screening 'KGF 2'.

On the other hand, KGF 2 is only roaring at the box office. According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'KGF 2' will soon become the 2nd highest grossing film after Aamir Khan's 'Dangal'. Its current collection stands at Rs 329.49 crores.
What does Jersey's performance at the box office suggest? That only big mass-entertainers should release in theatres or that viewers' watching habits have changed significantly in the pandemic. What do you think?
Off late, the Hindi films v/s South films debate has become an evergreen trend on microblogging site Twitter. Even celebrities from both industries have becomes involved in it. The debate addresses whether or nor Hindi films will be able to reach the mark films from the South have, or if Hindi films can beat their business at the Box office.
