New Delhi: Gangubai Kathiawadi, 2022's first major movie, will be at the box office tomorrow; it's about whether there will be some form of renewal finally seen in the film industry. Trade analysts weigh in on the film's first-day box office.
This movie is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first project with Alia Bhatt. While the film had great hopes, Gangubai Kathiawadi has sparked some debate, with a few lawsuits filed against its dissemination.
Despite these issues, trade analysts anticipate Gangubai Kathiawadi will have a strong start at the box office. Girish Johar, a producer and film industry specialist, estimates a Rs 5 crore opening and expects the figures to skyrocket if the early reviews are positive.
In a conversation with News18, Atul Mohan, a trade analyst also estimates a Rs 5 to 7 crore opening. He said, “I think Gangubai Kathiawadi should get one of the biggest releases post-pandemic. It is releasing on more than 3000 screens so they are targeting (a big release) and they’ll achieve it as well."
Except for a few areas, notably Maharashtra, cinemas are fully operational, which will benefit the picture. "Maharashtra is still the largest market, and while it is operating at 50% occupancy, the film may expand the number of screens and shows to compensate for the 50% shortage," Atul added.
In addition to Alia Bhatt, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh, and Shantanu Maheshwari play important parts in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi. In the film, Ajay Devgn will make a cameo appearance.
