New Delhi: After Selena Gomez came to Hailey Bieber's defence after the latter received death threats, Bieber took to Instagram to express her gratitude. In an Instagram post, Selena Gomez called on her followers to stop harassing and spreading hatred. She wrote, "Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn't what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I've always advocated for kindness and really want all of this to stop."
Hailey posted a lengthy message on her Instagram story in which she thanked Selena for stepping up and said that the two of them had been talking about how to end the storyline between them for weeks.
Hailey Bieber wrote, "I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I. The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this, which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together. Things can always be taken out of context or construed differently than they were intended. We all need to be more thoughtful about what we post and what we say, including myself."
She concluded, "In the end, I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to meet each other with more empathy and compassion."
Many began unfollowing Hailey because they misinterpreted her for personal attacking Selena. The singer’s fans hunted through old footage and formed interpretations about their purported fight based on what they saw.
In case you missed it, the rumours of Selena Gomez-Hailey Bieber spat started after Selena posted a video on her Instagram Story in which she revealed that she had her eyebrows "laminated", but that the results were more extreme than she had hoped for. As a joke, she said her attempt at grooming had failed miserably. Kylie Jenner later shared a picture of a FaceTime conversation with Hailey Bieber that revealed the two had identically groomed brows. Some of Selena's supporters even went so far as to accuse Kylie and Hailey of bullying their idol. After online allegations of abuse, Selena went live on TikTok to announce that she would be taking a hiatus from the platform.
