New Delhi: Audiences, film reviewers, market experts, and exhibitors all had very high hopes for Ranveer Singh's starrer ‘Cirkus’. Unfortunately, it also became the first Rohit Shetty-directed film to underperform at the box office. Ranveer, whose last film ‘83’ was not a monetary success either, once again received a tepid reception from moviegoers, as the masala entertainment failed to excite them in any way. Now, in one of his more recent interviews, the film's dialogue writer Farhad Samji has discussed his thoughts on the failure of Cirkus.

Speaking with India Today, Farhad said, “We don’t have any formula. We are filmmakers, we are not magicians or God. We can only try our best. Even Tendulkar gets out at zero and when he hits a century, he does. I respect Rohit Shetty for all the work he has done. His vision has helped me as well. I will not say this is a gamble, but the film business is a calculative gamble.”

He continued by saying they are making extra efforts at the moment to boost theatre attendance. Samji said, “Given the changes in film industry now, you have to be 10 times more careful, especially after the pandemic, and OTT exploration. We have to slog our brains more now.”

The film marks Ranveer Singh's third collaboration with Rohit Shetty after 'Simmba' and the Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi', where he had an extended cameo appearance.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors, which has been turned into Bollywood comedy flicks like 'Angoor' and 'Do Dooni Chaar', served as the inspiration for 'Cirkus'.

The comedy film is produced by Reliance Entertainment, T-Series, and Rohit Shetty Picturez and helmed by Rohit Shetty. Along with Ranveer Singh, the movie also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, Johnny Lever, Varun Sharma, and several other prominent actors. 'Cirkus' was released on the big screens on December 23.

Also, on Ranveer's plate is the Karan Johar directorial 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' in which he will share the screen with Dharmendra, his 'Gully Boy' co-star Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
