New Delhi: The film ‘Selfiee’, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, premiered on February 24, 2023. Although it was one of 2023's most-anticipated films, it underperformed at the box office. Market expert Taran Adarsh reports that the film's first-day gross was Rs 2.92 cr Nett.

To counter this, producer Ekta Kapoor has spoken out in defence of Akshay Kumar, calling the tabloid culture callous. On Saturday, she proclaimed Akshay Kumar to be the "most reliable, dependable actor" on her Instagram Stories.

Although the reason for her post remains unknown, it comes as Akshay's newest film Selfiee suffers a poor debut at the box office.

She wrote, "Akshay Kumar is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!!!" #insensitive.

Ekta's statement came after Kangana Ranaut contrasted the opening day of ‘Selfiee’. Kangana's Instagram post reads, "Karan Johar movie Selfie has hardly made 10 lakhs on the first day I don't see even one trade or media person talk about it forget mocking or bullying him the way they harass me…."

For the unversed, filmmaker Karan Johar is the co-producer of the film.

Throughout Akshay's 14-year film career, this is his worst opening weekend. Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, and Bachchhan Paandey are just a few of his previous failures.

‘Selfiee’ has an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Emran Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty. Akshay plays a 'superstar,' while Emraan Hashmi is both his greatest fan and a police officer in this action-comedy.

The action drama starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi premiered on February 24. 'Selfiee', a Raj Mehta-directed movie, is the official Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam movie Driving License. The lead actors in the movie were Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
