New Delhi: Veteran Punjabi actress Daljeet Kaur Khangura passed away on November 17 after a prolonged illness. According to reports, Daljeet was suffering from protracted therapy for her mental disorder. She was reportedly diagnosed with a neurological problem and had shifted to Ludhiana from Mumbai around 12 years ago. She was living with her cousin and was in a deep coma for the last one year. She was 69.


The funeral for Punjabi actress Daljeet Kaur took place in Ludhiana. 


The renowned actress appeared in over 70 films from the Punjabi cinema industry, as well as up to ten films in Hindi. She was in her 69th year. She received her undergraduate degree from Lady Sri Ram College (LSR), and then she went on to study acting at the famed FTII in Pune. 


In the year 1976, she made her acting debut in the film titled ‘Daaj.’ Daljeet also competed for his country in kabaddi and hockey at the national level.


Daljeet Kaur also known as "Hema Malini" of the Punjabi cinema industry. Kaur was well-known for playing the lead role in a number of famous Punjabi films. In the superhit film Singh VS. Kaur (2013), Daljeet played the role of Gippy Grewal's mother. 


She has also appeared in a wide variety of films, including ‘Giddha’, ‘Putt Jattan De’, ‘Roup Shaqinan Da’, ‘Ishaq Nimana’, ‘Laajo’, ‘Batwara’, ‘Vairee Jatt’, ‘Patola’, and ‘Jagga Daku’. 


Actress Neeru Bajwa took to Instagram to write about the tragic news. She wrote, "rip #daljitkaur Ji.. you were an inspiration..... very sad news. Am so grateful I had the opportunity to work with you #legend in #heerranjha."



On Twitter, singer Mika expressed his sadness on the passing of actress Daljeet Kaur by writing, “The beautiful Actress, Legend of Punjab #Daljeetkaur has sadly left us with her beautiful memories. May god bless her soul and she rest in eternal peace. 🙏🏼”
