Amid mounting criticism and growing negativity directed toward the Northeastern states following the high-profile murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya, actor and Bigg Boss 18 fame Chum Darang has stepped forward to defend the region. The actress condemned the generalisation of an entire community due to the actions of a few individuals and highlighted the importance of not letting bias cloud judgment.

Posting to her Instagram stories, Chum expressed her shock at the case and said, "This Raja Raghuvanshi case had me shook beyond words. I am sure everyone was worried for the 'wife' after the news of Raja being found. But never did I think she would be behind all this. Breaks my heart."

She also addressed the online backlash directed toward locals in Meghalaya and the larger Northeast community. "Also, I saw a lot of people were blaming the locals, the state, the region, to find out what? I am not saying NE states mein crime hota nehi hai, but sidha logon pe ungli uthana acchi baat nehi hai. My condolences," she added.
Meghalaya murder case
Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, was on a honeymoon in Meghalaya with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, when the two went missing. Days later, Raja's body was found, triggering a murder investigation that shocked the nation. In a disturbing twist, Sonam was arrested for allegedly orchestrating her husband's murder with the help of her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha.
According to Meghalaya Police, five people have been arrested so far: Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi. While Sonam was apprehended from a dhaba in Uttar Pradesh, three of the men were caught in Madhya Pradesh, and Akash was arrested in Lalitpur, UP.
The case has not only led to public outrage but also raised concerns for tourism in Meghalaya. Several travel agents have reported cancellations, though the state’s tourism board has since issued reassurances regarding safety.
