New Delhi: Singer and composer Vishal Dadlani has lately been in the news for his harsh criticism of a singer's performance, which has caused many to speculate. On Monday, Vishal vented his frustrations on social media about a "basic-to-bad" singer who had performed for a huge crowd. Even though Vishal didn't mention the artist by name, his open comments have sparked debates on the internet.
Vishal Dadlani’s Deleted Post
In an Instagram story that was later removed but was viral on Reddit, Vishal Dadlani talked about a singer’s bad performance, saying: “I’m really sorry, but when you put a basic-to-bad singer in front of a large crowd on a large stage, all you’re doing is showing more people that the individual can’t really sing, and that sadly, systems within labels in India aren’t geared towards really promoting the best we have.”
Vishal continued by saying that he had watched footage of the show and thought it was quite humiliating. "I’ve just seen some clips, and my gosh… How embarrassing! For the Country, the artiste, the public, as well as 'the scene.'”
Netizens Speculate About Jasleen Royal
Even though Vishal didn't identify the artist in his post, rumours began circulating online that the criticism may be directed at Jasleen Royal, whose performance at Coldplay's Mumbai concert has been the subject of much discussion.
A commenter who said, "It's harsh but I agree," seemed to be in agreement with Vishal. An attendee of the Coldplay concert shared, "I attended on the 19th and couldn’t wait for her part to get over. She looked absolutely dull and uninterested and at some point, it felt like she was just reading the lyrics. It was truly an embarrassment."
A user said, "There are many good Indian rock bands that could have opened," while another one wrote, "He is right she can't sing and she has a horrible voice."
For the unversed, during Coldplay's much-anticipated Music of the Spheres World Tour, Jasleen Royal’s performance was the opening act in India.
