Bollywood actor Vaani Kapoor was initially set to star opposite Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in his much-anticipated Bollywood comeback film, Abir Gulal. However, following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam in April, the film became the subject of controversy.
According to government sources cited by PTI, the film will not be permitted to release in India. Amid the backlash, all promotional content related to Abir Gulal disappeared from Vaani’s Instagram page.
Vaani Kapoor deletes Instagram posts with Abir Gulal co-star Fawad Khan
Soon after the Pahalgam attack, Vaani’s Instagram was wiped clean of any mention of Abir Gulal—including posters, teaser clips, and behind-the-scenes images. While the disappearance raised questions, it seems that the deletions were not made by Vaani herself. Since the posts were originally shared via Instagram Collab with the film’s official account, they were automatically removed when the production team deleted them.
This development came after Instagram restricted access to several Pakistani celebrities’ accounts in India, including those of Fawad Khan, Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, and Atif Aslam. Users in India trying to view their profiles are now met with a message stating: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
Pahalgam Terror attack
For context, Abir Gulal—a romantic drama directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agrawal—was scheduled to release on May 9 in India. But after the April 22 terror attack in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam, in which 26 people, mostly civilians, were killed, the film faced political backlash.
The attack has been called the deadliest in the Valley since Pulwama in 2019. Prominent Indian actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra condemned the violence, while Pakistani actors including Mahira Khan and Hania Aamir also mourned the victims.
Vaani Kapoor’s Work Front
Recently, Vaani appeared in Raid 2, where she played the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film also featured Riteish Deshmukh, Saurabh Shukla, Rajat Kapoor, and Supriya Pathak. Up next, Vaani will be seen in Badtameez Gill, alongside Aparshakti Khurana, Paresh Rawal, Sheeba Chaddha, Richard Bhakti Klein, and Monica Chaudhary. The film’s release date is yet to be announced.
