Veteran actor Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, has shared a deeply emotional account of his father’s final hours, remembering both the pain of the loss and the peaceful way in which the legendary star passed away.

Kunal Goswami on his father Manoj Kumar's final moments

Opening up about the last moments, Goswami recalled waking up around 4:30 AM to find his father’s health deteriorating further — a struggle he had been enduring for quite some time. “He had been unwell for a while, and we were constantly praying for his pain to ease,” he told IANS. “The doctors did everything they could. The support from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and his dedicated staff was incredible. They really cared for him.”

Kunal described how, despite the physical suffering his father endured due to multiple organ issues, Manoj Kumar ultimately passed away peacefully. “When organs begin to fail, the body goes through a lot. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact cause, but it seemed to be heart-related toward the end. Despite the pain, I am grateful that he went in peace. That’s all we could hope for.”

He also shared the funeral details, stating that Manoj Kumar’s body would be taken from the hospital at 9 AM, brought to their residence by 10 AM, and then moved to Pawan Hans for the cremation scheduled at 11 AM.

Reflecting on his father's enduring cinematic legacy, Kunal said, “You can watch his films even today and feel the power of his message. The word ‘Bharat’ is being used again — in politics, in the Parliament — and it’s heartening to see. My father’s work was always rooted in love for the nation. His karma and soul will live on.”

Kunal thanks PM Narendra Modi

Kunal also extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “I thank Modiji for recognizing the importance of Bharat again. My father’s name and work will always resonate with that spirit.”

Manoj Kumar, affectionately called ‘Bharat Kumar’ for his patriotic roles, passed away at the age of 87 early Friday morning at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He had been under medical care since February 21, when his condition took a critical turn.

In an official statement, Dr. Santosh Shetty, CEO and Executive Director at the hospital, confirmed the news, saying, “Veteran actor Shri Manoj Kumarji passed away peacefully at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital early this morning at around 3:30 AM due to age-related health issues. He had been hospitalized for the past few weeks.”

As fans and the film fraternity mourn the loss of a true cinematic icon, Manoj Kumar’s legacy of patriotism and purpose continues to inspire generations.
