New Delhi: Siddhant Chaturvedi recently disclosed that he turned down the opportunity to audition for a role in 'Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva.' He also shared that he faced criticism and was blacklisted for declining the role, stating that the casting director was taken aback by his decision.
In a conversation with Lallantop, Siddhant said , "One month before Gully Boy, this happened. The makers of a very big film that eventually became the biggest film offered me a part. I had got it through a casting director. It was one of the characters, but it didn't have any script or audition. They said that you do martial arts, it was an action fantasy film, which was released recently and became a big hit and its song is also very popular. Ek ashram hai, usme one of the superhero’s ka kirdar mila tha mujhe (There's a monastery, and I got the role of one of the superheroes). So they asked me to do it. I asked about audition, lines. I should also understand what it is about. They said, 'It's a VFX-heavy project, and it will take five years to make)'.".
Siddhant then said that the film in question was "Brahmastra" and he had a meeting with the director, Ayan Mukerji. Despite his excitement, Siddhant sought clarity on the script, which was not available at the initial stage. Ayan assured him of a three-film contract, but Siddhant declined to audition. He told the casting director that his presence would likely go unnoticed amid the star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt.
As a consequence of his decision, Siddhant shared that he faced blacklisting in the casting circuit, being labeled as "crazy" and gaining notoriety for turning down selected roles. Terms such as arrogance and cockiness were allegedly associated with him in casting discussions.
He said in the interview, “Mujhe blacklist kar diya gaya casting se. Blacklist kar diya ki ye toh pagal hai ladka. Badnaam ho gaya tha main casting circuit mein ki, ‘Ye select ho ke na bol deta hai. Hai kaun bhai tu?' (I was blacklisted from casting. I was blacklisted because they thought this boy is crazy. I had become infamous in the casting circuit for refusing selected roles.)”
Siddhant made his Bollywood debut in 2019 film ‘Gully Boy’ also starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. He has also done films like ‘Phone Bhoot’, Bunty Aur Babli 2, Gehraiyaan. He was last seen in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan along with Ananya Pandey and Adarsh Gourav.
