After gaining popularity through her quirky and memorable appearance in the third season of 'The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives', Shalini Passi has quietly carved a niche for herself in the wellness and lifestyle space. What started as a reality show cameo has since evolved into a full-blown public persona, with many looking to Shalini for guidance on health, diet, and fitness.
In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Shalini talked about her unconventional approach to food and wellness, emphasising her commitment to Ayurveda and clean eating. Despite the glitz of the media world, Shalini said she has remained true to her roots.
Shalini Passi doesn't eat daal-chawal
“My friends would tell me that being in the media is a lot, you will not be able to handle it. They would say don’t say anything, don’t have your soups, don’t have your juices,” she recalled. But Shalini chose not to conform. “I said I am not going to lie and say I am having daal-chawal. I don’t eat daal-chawal.”
She eats only raw foods
Describing her routine, Shalini shared that her diet revolves entirely around ayurvedic principles. “My diet is ayurvedic. I have raw foods till 6 o’clock, which is in our culture. I have around 10-12 kind of vegetables which I consume during the day, also including ghee and all the ayurvedic spices and powders. I think my lifestyle is for me to be healthy and for me to be functional,” she said.
On people who have unhealthy lifestyle
She also expressed her concerns for those who lead unhealthy lifestyles. “I feel bad for those who consume a lot of sugar, carbohydrates, smoke, drink and don’t have a healthy lifestyle,” she noted. Interestingly, Shalini admitted that she hasn't watched the show that made her famous. “I haven’t seen the show yet because I’m conscious about how I look,” she confessed, explaining she feels she appears bigger on camera.
Outside of her wellness journey, Shalini is also deeply involved in the arts. “I run an art foundation,” she shared, before elaborating on her tightly packed daily schedule. “I pray almost 1.5-2 hours a day. I work out. I dance for an hour, and then pilates for an hour, every day.” She added with a smile, “I have a schedule like a child. My life is very regimented, every minute to minute.”
