Bollywood actress Preity Zinta recently engaged with fans in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on X (formerly Twitter), during which she addressed speculation about her political affiliations and later apologized for sounding abrupt in her response to a fan query.
When a fan asked if she planned to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Preity initially responded sharply, saying, "That’s the problem with people on social media, everybody has become so judgemental of late."
Preity Zinta's AMA
Clarifying her stance, she wrote: "As I said earlier, going to a temple, attending the Maha Kumbh, and being proud of who I am and my identity does not equate to me joining politics or the BJP. Living outside India has made me realise the true value of my home country. Like everyone else, I do appreciate India and all things Indian much more now."
The fan who asked the question clarified that it was a genuine inquiry based on her recent tweets and public appearances and was not meant to be judgmental. Acknowledging the explanation, Preity offered an apology and got candid about the emotional toll such assumptions take on her.
She wrote: "I'm sorry if I sounded abrupt! I have PTSD from this question. Appreciate your clarification 🙏. After becoming a mom and living in a foreign country, I want to make sure my kids don't forget that they are half-Indian. Since my husband is agnostic, we are bringing up our kids as Hindus."
Expressing her frustration, she added: "Sadly, I’m facing constant criticism, and this simple joy of teaching my children about their roots is being taken away by people politicising my choices. I feel like I constantly have to defend who I am or explain my pride in my culture and religion... Chalo, time to move on. Sending you lots of love and best wishes."
