There has been considerable excitement and buzz around the much-anticipated biopic of legendary singer Mukesh, which has reportedly been in the production phase for quite some time. Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, one of Mukesh's five grandchildren, recently opened up about his cherished memories and the development of the film.
Neil shared that he relies heavily on stories and anecdotes from his grandmother and father, renowned singer Nitin Mukesh, to better understand his grandfather’s legacy. Over the past two years, rumors have swirled about Neil developing a script that chronicles the life and times of the iconic playback singer.

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Neil revealed, “My team and I have been writing for quite some time. Not many know that I’m a professional writer and also own a production house.”
He added, “There’s a full-fledged exercise in place—every time I sit down with my father, I listen to stories about my grandfather. I also go through our archives, including his memorabilia and photographs.”
Neil believes that Mukesh’s life is a compelling cinematic journey. “We have a great bank of content and material ready. His life has been so beautiful, filled with emotional highs and lows. There’s a lovely arc in his story. His journey is incredibly inspiring, and people need to see it.”Filmmaker Abhishek Sharma, known for films like Tere Bin Laden and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, recently directed Neil in the web series Hai Junoon. Neil shared that Sharma has shown keen interest in the project.
“We’re just trying to figure out the right medium, the right producers to collaborate with, and the actors and filmmakers who should come on board. I’ve spoken with Abhishek. In fact, he was the one who brought up the idea. He’s genuinely excited. I’m just waiting for him to get free—I’d love to hear his vision for the project,” Neil explained.
Who Will Play Mukesh on Screen?
When asked about who could best portray Mukesh, Neil responded confidently, “I don’t think there can be a better Mukesh than me. I am Mukesh. I know him better than anyone else. Even my father wants me to play my grandfather for emotional reasons.”
However, Neil also acknowledged the realities of the film industry. “I’m realistic. I won’t have any qualms if another actor is chosen to play my grandfather. The business of cinema is driven by perception. As actors, we seek opportunities, but they are given to us based on how others perceive us—our box office draw matters.”
“In today’s world, even your Instagram followers can influence casting decisions. As far as talent is concerned, I won’t hesitate to say that I’m the best fit to play Mukesh. But I understand the business side of things. If a producer feels another actor would be a better financial bet, I’m okay with it,” Neil concluded.
