New Delhi: An accusation of sexual assault by a junior artist has put Malayalam actor-producer Baburaj in a heated controversy. The actor, who prefers to remain anonymous, claims that the event occurred at Baburaj's house in Aluva, where she had been invited to explore a possible film part. On Monday, she spoke to the media and detailed what happened before the incident occurred.
In an interview with reporters on Monday, the junior artist said, “He (Baburaj) offered a role for me in an upcoming movie and asked me to come to his house at Aluva saying that the film’s production controller and other technicians are at his house. I was offered a role which has a presence throughout the movie. I went to him expecting that he would recommend me to get a better career in the industry. When I reached his house, there was nobody.”
In addition, the actress claimed that Baburaj had entered her room and sexually attacked her. “When I reached his home only Baburaj and his assistant was there. He gave me a room to take rest, however, after a while, he knocked at the door. When I opened the door, he got into the room and closed the door, used some abusive words and attacked me and sexually abused me. I didn’t complain to anybody then because he’s a famous actor and I didn’t have support from anyone,” the actress told the media.
She was afraid Baburaj would retaliate because of his prominent position in the business, so she decided not to report the event right away. The Kochi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), however, advised her to lodge a formal complaint, so she did just that.

Baburaj Denies The Accusation
The accusation was refuted by Baburaj, the joint general secretary of Kerala's AMMA. In reaction, Baburaj declared his intention to sue the complainant and cast doubt on the veracity of her claims. On top of that, Baburaj implied that his opponents in the business may be behind the claims, which might be connected to a plot involving his bid for the general secretary post in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
