The 'Jigra' controversy began when director Vasan Bala shared that producer Karan Johar sent the film's rough script to Alia Bhatt without informing him. After Vasan expressed his disapproval, Karan Johar blamed the media and fans for misinterpreting the comment. Vasan has now addressed the issue, clarifying his statement.

On Sunday, Vasan Bala took to Instagram to share a brief note. Alongside the note, he posted a collage featuring two hoardings from the streets of Mumbai—one showcasing Alia Bhatt’s 2022 film Gangubai Kathiawadi, and the other promoting her upcoming movie Jigra.

Sharing the post, Vasan captioned it, "The photo on the left, I had taken in 2022 and wished...The photo on the right at the same spot, 2024! Wish fulfilled Of course we can keep discussing other things too, to each his own.... October 11th will be the final answer."

An user wrote, “Next up, he'll be posting a page from his diary detailing manifestations to work with Alia dated from 2022 lmao.” “Vasan Bala is treading such a thin line. Why does he have to clarify his love for Alia? And why do this extent? Theek hai you wanted to work with her. We'll accept that but please hold your desire to work with her with some dignity,” a Redditor wrote.

Another said, “This is just sad! Talented people have to go to any lengths to prove their loyalty. Out of fear? Yes. Out of love or respect? Hardly. Why does Karan have such hold on people? I get that he produced the movie if not maybe Vasan would have an OTT release? But compromising your values, going above and beyond just for one movie? We all know if at all the movie does well at the BO “Rani Alia” will be praised and hailed as the only actress to be successful ever on this planet. Vasan and Vedang will get some credit but will have to again prove their mettle through hard work for their next big film. Alia madam has anyway scripts lined up. It’s a pity the industry works this way and Kangana was 💯 right.”

Jigra controversy

In a recent interview with Tried & Refused Productions, Vasan Bala expressed his displeasure, stating he was "really not happy" with Karan Johar sending his "roughly drafted" ‘Jigra’ script to Alia Bhatt without proper revisions.

"I had sent one very kaccha pakka (roughly drafted) email, very stream of consciousness thought, sent it to Karan. I think six or seven hours later, he called saying, 'I've already set it to Alia'. I was really not happy with it. I was like, 'I would have at least done some spellcheck, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry. So that email was sent, I was like, 'Why did you do this?'. Karan said, 'No, no, this is how it works'," he had said.
