New Delhi: Veteran film director Raj Kumar Kohli, known for directing films like Nagin and Jaani Dushman, passed away in Mumbai on Friday. He was 95 years old. The filmmaker had a heart attack on Friday morning at 8. The funeral will take place in the evening.


The filmmaker had gone to take a shower in his house in Juhu and when he didn’t step out after a long time, his actor son Armaan Kohli broke the door and took him to the hospital.


Armaan Kohli’s friend, publicist Vijay Grover confirmed the news to Indian Express and said, “Raj ji passed away this morning. He had gone for a bath at 8 am and did not come out for a long time. So Armaan rushed, broke the bathroom door to check and found that Raj ji had had fallen unconscious. He had suffered a cardiac arrest. His funeral will be carried out in the evening today.” 


The filmmaker has directed films like Nagin, Jaani Dushman, Badle Ki Aag, Raj Tilak, Jeena Nhai Dunga, Bees Saal Baad among others.




Nagin (1976) starring Rena Roy, Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Sanjay Khan, Rekha and Mumtaz and Jaani Dushman (1979) with Reena Roy, Neetu Singh, Sunil Dutt, Sanjeev Kumar, Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha were his biggest hits. Bees Saal Baad (1988) with ithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Vinod Mehra in lead is also one of his hit films.


He also launched his son Armaan Kohli in the 1992 film Virodhi. Armaan’s career didn’t flourish in Bollywood, he was last seen in Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo and was also a part of celebrity reality show Bigg Boss 7.


The filmmaker is survived by his wife and son.
