Film producer Bhushan Kumar recently shared that his mother, Sudesh Kumari, is the key figure in the delay of the much-anticipated biopic on his late father, Gulshan Kumar. In an interview with Connect Cine, Bhushan opened up about the status of the project, revealing that Aamir Khan was originally cast to play the lead role. While the script has been praised by both Aamir and Bhushan, the film cannot move forward without the approval of Bhushan’s mother, who has certain reservations about the narrative.
Why Aamir Khan-starrer Gulshan Kumar biopic has been delayed
According to Bhushan Kumar, the script is almost ready, and Aamir has expressed his excitement, calling it one of the best scripts he’s come across recently. "However, my mother has some concerns about the perspective from which the story is being told," Bhushan said. "As the biopic is about my father, we need her approval before we can proceed with the production. Once she’s on board, we’ll take the next steps."
Gulshan Kumar, the founder of T-Series, was a pioneering figure in the Indian music and film industry. He was instrumental in transforming T-Series into a dominant force in Bollywood music during the 1990s. The biopic, Bhushan Kumar emphasized, will be a tribute to his father’s extraordinary journey and legacy. However, he noted that, while the script is fantastic, he does not want to create a film that entertains at the cost of family sentiments.

Bhushan further explained, “There’s no point in giving the audience entertainment if it ends up hurting the family. Once my mother is convinced, we will move ahead with the project.” The biopic is poised to be an emotional homage to Gulshan Kumar's life and will mark the first collaboration of Bhushan Kumar and T-Series with a film of such magnitude.
Gulshan Kumar’s untimely death left a void in the industry, but his legacy continues to live on through his family. His son, Bhushan Kumar, has successfully carried forward the T-Series empire, while his daughters, Tulsi Kumar and Khushalii Kumar, have made their marks as playback singers.
