Ameesha Patel, cherished for her role as Sakina in the Gadar franchise, has sparked conversations online with her bold stance on screen roles. Responding to remarks by Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma, who suggested she embrace character progression by playing a mother-in-law, the actress firmly stated that she has no intention of taking up such roles, regardless of the paycheck.

Ameesha Patel on doing elderly roles

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Anil Sharma revealed that Patel had resisted playing a mother-in-law during Gadar 2. He referenced legendary actress Nargis Dutt, who took on the role of a mother in Mother India at a young age, as an example of accepting challenging roles. Patel, however, addressed the comments on X (formerly Twitter), where she shared a screenshot of his remarks and wrote:

“Dear @Anilsharma_dir dear Anilji. This is only a film and not a reality of some family, so on screen, I do have a say as to what I want to do and not do respect u loads, but I will never play a mother-in-law for Gadar or any film, even if paid 100 crores."

Patel also highlighted her belief that fans treasure the Gadar franchise for its portrayal of Tara (Sunny Deol) and Sakina as iconic heroes. “Fans don’t want to see Tara Sakina as father-in-law and mother-in-law; they love their Tara being a hero and a superhero only," she added.

Despite their differing views, Patel expressed her respect for Sharma and extended her best wishes for his latest release, Vanvaas, starring Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma.
