New Delhi: In the 2018 hit-and-run case involving actor Dalip Tahil, the verdict has finally come. For driving while intoxicated and hitting a woman, the Baazigar star has been given a two-month prison term.

A magistrate's court declared Dalip Tahil guilty, according to a report on Live Mint, "relying on the evidence of the doctor who opined that smell of the alcohol was found and pupils were dilated." The actor had declined to provide blood samples to the police for an alcohol test at the time of his detention in 2018.

Two passengers were hurt when Dalip's car collided with an autorickshaw. In an attempt to escape, he became stuck in a traffic jam brought on by the Ganesh Visarjan processions. Apparently, the passengers followed Dalip's car and confroted him. They claim that he shoved them around during an argument. The actor was detained after the police were called.

The passengers were identified as Jenita Gandhi, 21, and Gaurav Chugh, 22.

“The impact of the collision caused Ms Gandhi sustain a severe jolt to her back and neck. Ms Gandhi and Mr Chugh got off the autorickshaw and saw the car trying to flee towards Santacruz. The car could not get far as the street was crowded due to Ganeshotsav immersion processions,” an officer with the Khar police told the Hindu.

Talking about the verdict, Dalip Tahil while talking to ABP News said, "I respect the decisions of the Magistrate Court. I am going to challenge the Magistrate Court's decision in the Session Court. The sentence that the Magistrate Court has pronounced on me is a suspended sentence. The accident that happened in 2018 was a very minor one. The victim sustained only minor injuries in this incident and was discharged from the hospital after receiving basic medical treatment."

"Based on these grounds, we will be appealing this decision in the High Court. I want to reiterate that I have the utmost respect for the court, but this case is not as it is being portrayed in the media. Dalip Tahil reiterated - we are going to challenge every aspect of the Magistrate Court's decision in court," he added.
