Ranveer Singh has been quite consistent when it comes to his films taking a double digit opening. In fact his last three releases, Simmba, Gully Boy and Padmaavat were quite huge when it came to setting some personal records for the superstar. While Simmba went past the 20 crores mark, the other two came quite close to doing that.

The same was expected from ‘83 as well and rest assured if these were not post-pandemic times, the film could well have done that. Of course there would be murmurs around how Sooryavanshi came close to 30 crores opening while Spider-Man: No Way Home easily surpassed that mark. However one has to consider the fact that these were event films whereas ‘83 is a biggie which deserves very good numbers but can’t expect to start on the same lines especially in the current times.

Nonetheless, the film has still opened decently enough from where it should grow, and in the process Ranveer Singh has earned his seventh biggest opening day till date. Here is the list of some of the biggest openers of the actor:

Simmba - 20.72 crores

Gully Boy - 19.40 crores

Padmaavat - 19 crores

Gunday - 15.86 crores

Ram Leela - 15.73 crores

Bajirao Mastani - 12.80 crores

‘83’ - 12.64 crores

What is remarkable is that three out of these seven films are Sanjay Leela Bhansali affairs, which shows how much the director has contributed to the actor’s career. Nonetheless coming back to ‘83, while the start may have not made it to the Top-5, what has to be seen is whether the weekend turns out to be much huger and in the process Ranveer gets his film right up there.

The film is expectedly gathering good appreciation from all over and if the previews had promised a mega entertainer in the making, subsequent reviews followed by audience word of mouth have been quite positive as well, something that should enable the film to further rise and shine, especially this Christmas season.
