New Delhi: Alia Bhatt has been awarded the Priyadarshani Academy Smita Patil Memorial Award for her contribution to India cinema. The 'Brahmastra' actress received the award on the 38th anniversary of the Priyadarshini Academy, a non-profit educational organization which designed the accolade in the memory of actress Smita Patil in 1986. Reportedly, the event happened via a webinar virtually on September 19, 2022.


Alia attended the online event. She shared how grateful she was for the award in her acceptance speech after receiving the accolade.  “I want to thank the Priyadarshni Academy for bestowing me with the Smita Patil Memorial Award for Best Actor. It’s a tremendous honour to be here today, one I’ll cherish for the years to come. India has the most incredible legacy of the arts, and I’m eternally grateful that our work is a part of it. Cinema teaches us the importance of believing in the beauty of dreams, to follow them with dedication and humility, and never quit," Alia said, quoted by News18.


Alia also shared the certificate of the award via her social media channel with all her fans and well-wishers. Alia shared a picture of the award with a caption on her Instagram story that read, "Grateful and honoured to receive the Smita Patil Memorial Award. Thank you to everyone."


Through the award, Alia's performances and brand value are some of the things which are highlighted. A note on the certificate read, " A very talented and multi-faceted actor, Ms. Alia Bhatt has carved a niche for herself in modern Indian cinema through her outstanding and critically acclaimed performances in Hindi films. She has also been a successful brand ambassador of several prestigious brands. We, at Priyadarshani Academy, applaud and celebrate her admirable contribution to the entertainment industry."


Meanwhile, on the work front, Alia Bhatt was recently seen in 'Brahmastra' with Ranbir Kapoor. The Ayan Mukerji directorial has already earned Rs. 200 crores at the box office and continues to do well globally. Alia has had a great year with successful films in 2022 starting from 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', 'RRR', 'Darlings' on Netflix and now, with 'Brahmastra'.
